IMG_0701Thanks to Annika for the best birthday card ever.  Why yes, that is me and Glenn being taken away by the Doctor!

One week ago, I turned 24.  It’s one of those inconsequential birthdays that means nothing more than the concrete transition from early to mid twenties.  Nobody writes songs about being 24.  23 has Blink 182’s “What’s My Age Again”.  25 has “What’s Up?” by 4 Non Blondes.  But 24?  Nothing.

As always, I kept things pretty low key.  My actual birthday began at the pub, in my favourite booth, with the few stragglers left from our after class drinks.  I spent the day with friends and family.  As a treat to myself, I had my hair done.  And I started playing Tomb Raider – sent to me by Glenn as a birthday gift.

On Sunday, a small group of friends came round and we ate chips and drank cider and played a Scandinavian wood-throwing game called Kubb [thanks to Rien for bringing that one].  The weather was cold and drizzly, and at one point our party was gatecrashed by a neighbour’s dog.  To anyone else it might not have seemed like a special day, but I was pretty happy.

These past few weeks, I’ve been keeping myself busy.  It hasn’t all been fun; I picked up a pretty nasty virus at Boogie that’s had me coughing worse than I’ve ever coughed before [and it just won’t go away].  There’s been so much work to do for my course that I’m struggling to keep up.  But at the same time, I had Sarah here to visit.  I’ve managed to get 33% of the way through Tomb Raider [best procrastination tool ever].  I made it to a few Comedy Festival shows.

Somewhere along the way, I forgot to renew my domain name and hosting. launched on my 21t birthday when my mother bought me a three year domain name and hosting package.  It expired last Thursday, and I didn’t realize until the Friday evening.  Cue panic.  Thankfully, as you can see, everything is still here.  And will be for at least the next twelve months.

I don’t really know where I’m going with this.  It seems like the kind of post that I used to write back in my LiveJournal days – inane ramblings that never make any kind of point.  Maybe what I’m trying to say is that just like this website, I’m still here.  And birthdays are as good a time as any to make some changes.  For example, I’m working on improving my writing routine.  No more lying on my bed; all writing must be done at my desk.  [Yes, this is something that I tried to get happening at the start of the year, and it lasted for about a month.  This time I’m hoping to make it stick].

Speaking of changes, I’ve been promising a relaunch and redesign for this place for quite some time now, and I can finally announce that it’s really happening.  This blog, that once upon a time started as some sort of writing portfolio, has grown and changed, just like I have.  And it’s time that I changed the design and layout to reflect that.

So, Wednesday April 24th – write it in your calendar [don’t really, that would be weird] – the site may be down for a bit while I tweak with everything, but by 5pm AEST I promise that it will be up and running again, with such a magnificent facelift that you may not even recognise it!  Huzzah.
