The Antenna Awards – [Community] Television’s Night of Nights
SYN TV Manager Tim Kennedy and I at the VIP pre-drinks.
On Sunday night, Channel 31 held the 2010 Antenna Awards at Federation Square. They’re just like the logies, but without the red carpet [and there’s no sign of Jules Lund or Bert Newton]. 1700 was up for three awards – outstanding youth program, outstanding live program, and outstanding music program. Unfortunately we didn’t win anything, however a couple of other SYN productions – notably The Naughty Rude Show and The Inquiry – were a little more successful.
The award for original title music went to another production that I had the privilege to work on last year, Renegade Productions’ Dancing About Architecture – a show about music criticism, hosted by the wonderful Clem Bastow, with Mia Timpano and Tim Finney. The theme song in question was Ben Birchall and the Corrections’ track “Surprise Surprise”.
Overall, it was a great night [aside from some racist and very unfunny “comedy” from the warm up guy]. 1700 Thursday hosts Jack & Cassie were all over the dance floor at the after party, and we met people from all sorts of productions – from Horse Talk TV to The Local Footy Show. We may not have won anything this year, but next year we’ve got it covered. For sure.
