Shameless Self-Promotion: Blank Academy
“Hey Britt, uh, what actually is this Blank Academy thing that you’ve been so busy with lately?” This is a question that literally
thousands of maybe three different people have asked me. To save time and avoid repeating myself further, I figured that it was about time that I mentioned/explained the thing here.
Blank Academy is a comedy series that a group of friends and I have been working on for the ABC iView Fresh Blood competition. Ripping off teen television shows about super-competitive specialist high schools [particularly Dance Academy, but also shows like The Worst Witch and Blue Water High] as well as other school-based dramas [Degrassi, Skins, etc.], Blank Academy focuses on a group of teenagers at the most ridiculous academy in existence – you never know what they’ll be learning, except that it rhymes with “dance”.
The series has all of the tropes that these teen shows are known for: an underachieving protagonist [named Jane Doe] with a token ethnic best friend [Rwanda Ramirez-Chang]. There’s the gay, wheelchair-bound Julienne [we’re really killing two birds with one stone on this one], and their perfect popular rival, Britney Antagonisto. There’s also someone called Miranda [played by me!] but she’s not even worth mentioning – the general rule is to pretend that she doesn’t exist.
We shot our pilot episode a couple of weeks ago, and it’s now available on our YouTube channel. BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE! We also have an official Blank Academy facebook page, with photos and all sorts of fun things. And, if you act now, you can also access our Twitter account FOR FREE! Follow and like us, and you’ll get this amazing content delivered directly to your phone, laptop, tablet, or other internet-enabled device. It doesn’t get much better than this.
