New Flo: “What the Water Gave Me”
Last week, the Flombies of the world shared a celebration: finally, a sneak peek at Florence + the Machine’s new album. This came in the form of “What the Water Gave Me”, a song inspired by Frida Kahlo and Virginia Woolf, accompanied by a video clip compiled from various clips of Flo & co recording at Abbey Road Studios.
Confession time: I didn’t really like it.
The song has since grown on me, as I knew it would. But, at first, I found it disappointing. “What the Water Gave Me”, while still quite an epic song, lacks the oomph that made “Dog Days Are Over” and “Rabbit Heart (Raise it Up)” so special. I can only hope that the rest of the album [due in November] is able to hit me with the same punch that Lungs did.
What do you think?
