MUSICAL TELEVISION: Glee vs Blackpool. Which do you prefer?
I’ve got a confession to make: I don’t like Glee.
Actually, that’s not a confession. I’m not ashamed. I simply don’t like Glee. I don’t understand it. The sickly sweet auto-tuned vocals and over-the-top dramatics just do not appeal to me at all.
But that’s not to say that I don’t like the idea of television shows where the main characters burst into song. In 2005, there was a British series called Blackpool, starring David Morrissey and David Tennant, which featured cheesy renditions of such tracks as “The Boy With a Thorn in His Side” and “The Gambler”, and it was brilliant. Now, that’s what I prefer – no auto-tune, and grown men pushing each other into swimming pools. Which one would you choose?
