Memories: 4 Non Blondes – “What’s Up?”
If you had to sum up my childhood with one song, this would probably be it. Just look at that video clip – Linda Perry, with her dreadlocks, the hat with the goggles, and those clothes. Definitely 1992. Back in the day, I lived with Mum in Geelong, and Dad lived in Melbourne. So, every second weekend I’d spend over an hour in the car each way to spend some time at Dad’s place. He drove most of the time, and this song was all over the radio. We used to sing along at the top of our lungs. Whenever I hear it now, I still do.
Interestingly, Linda Perry has gone on to write with and produce albums for the likes of Pink and Christina Aguilera. She was responsible for “Beautiful”, and penned Gwen Stefani’s “What You Waiting For?” She also uses her iPhone to record cover songs and post them online.
