To all those reviewers who’ve said that Ladyhawke has no stage presence: are you sure you’re talking about the right performer?  Sure, Pip Brown is awkward – but with her endearing “thank you”s after each song, she had no difficulty in charming the packed-out crowd at Billboard the Venue on Tuesday night.

Opening with “Back of the Van”, the setlist was well balanced between Ladyhawke’s self-titled debut album and her latest offering, Anxiety.  New track “Blue Eyes” won the crowd over with its Roxette-like refrain, while old favourites “Dusk til Dawn”, “Professional Suicide” and “Paris is Burning” kept everyone dancing.  After a brief explanation of how an encore works, the night ended with the wonderfully catchy “My Delirium”, and the confirmation that Pip Brown does indeed know how to work the stage in her own awkward fashion.
