Let’s Talk About Sax, Baby

Let’s Talk About Sax, Baby

I think I’ve worked out the problem with modern rock/pop music: there aren’t anywhere near enough saxophone solos.  25 years ago, you couldn’t escape the sax, but now they’re nowhere to be found.

Here are just some of my favourite sax-tastic musical moments:

INXS – “Never Tear Us Apart”

It is impossible to dislike this song.

Spandau Ballet – “Gold”

This has always been one of my favourite songs. Is it any wonder I chose to take up saxophone in high school?

Icehouse – “Electric Blue”

Fun fact: This song was co-written by John Oates of Hall & Oates fame.

Gerry Rafferty – “Baker Street”

How could I forget Gerry Rafferty?!

Have I missed anyone?  What song do you think has the best sax solo?

I think you might be on to something.
Supertramp (who happen to be my favourite band) have rocking sax solos, second only to all their rocking piano solos. But of course I’m sitting in bed and its 9:30 in the morning and I can’t think of any specific examples right now (ok, so I usually pay more attention to the piano solos, I LIKE piano solos). I shall report back.
