The United States of Television [via io9] is a pretty cool little map of television shows in the US.

How much should a writer expect to get paid?  Last month someone at the Emerging Writers’ Festival put together this handy table of different publications and the amounts that they pay.  It’s a really good resource for all the writer folk out there.

Kiel at Music Feeds has discovered a facebook app that will tell you which of your friends like Nickelback.  If you’re thinking of doing a bit of a friend cull, but can’t work out who to ditch first, then this might help push things along.

THERE IS A RON SWANSON PAPER DOLL and it is available to download right here.  It comes with a breakfast poster, and a Duke Silver outfit!  And, if that’s not enough for you, here is a blog dedicated to Ron Swanson art.  It’s amazing.

Why does magic need so many rules? [io9]  This is a really interesting article, and while I disagree with many of the points that the author makes, it’s a very good talking point.

Things You Should Know Before You Date a Writer [Thought Catalog]: “If you’re dating a writer and they don’t write about you — whether it’s good or bad — then they don’t love you. They just don’t. Writers fall in love with the people we find inspiring. If you don’t set my pen on fire, how are you going to set my bed on fire?”

Veronica Mars was one of my favourite television shows, and I was devastated when it ended.  Why did it have to go so soon?  Elizabeth Flux has explored this over at Subterranean Death Cult, and she may have hit the nail on the head.

I’m not the only one who didn’t really like Friends With Kids.  Check out this review over at The Early Bird Catches the Worm [spoiler alert].

13 Things Bad Screenwriters Commonly Do [Writers Store]: “Nothing annoys a potential director more than having a screenwriter tell him/her how to direct or where to place opening credits. As for music, if the hero is a vampire and always listens to Frank Sinatra singing “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” that’s one thing. But don’t tell the director what the inevitable soundtrack will be.”

THE TV TROPES STORY GENERATOR.  How did I not know of this before?!  It’s amazing.  Actually amazing.

Eric Conveys an Emotion hasn’t been updated in four years, but its archives are still highly entertaining.  If you don’t know about Eric, he’s a lovely man who decided to photograph himself conveying different emotions.  Pretty much what it says on the tin.

Pixar Story Rules [The Pixar Touch]: #9: When you’re stuck, make a list of what WOULDN’T happen next. Lots of times the material to get you unstuck will show up.

Looking for a work placement or internship?  These tips might come in handy, then [via Big Spaceship].
