Harvest – A Festival That I’m Actually Looking Forward To
After the not-so-great line-up announcements surrounding the Australian festival circuit this year [yes, I’m looking at you, Splendour], I must say that the Harvest Festival announcement came as a bit of a relief. Featuring names like Beck and Sigur Ros, the Harvest line-up is proof that some of the festival bookers still know what they’re doing.
Tickets for Harvest went on sale this morning [I managed to secure mine in yesterday’s presale], and considering the small capacity compared to other festivals, I imagine it’ll sell out fairly quickly.
While the headlining acts are certainly strong, it’s the performers a little further down the list that I’m most excited about – particularly Ben Folds Five. Despite having been a fan for many years, I’ve never seen Mr Folds perform live. CAKE are another highlight of the list so far, as are The Dandy Warhols. It’s exciting to see a festival line-up full of people who I haven’t had the chance to see before.
I’m not sure what to think of Mike Patton’s Mondo Cane – it doesn’t seem quite right to imagine the lead singer of Faith No More performing Italian pop songs from the fifties and sixties – but the concept is intriguing enough that I’ll certainly make an effort to check it out.
Harvest is on the 11th November, at Werribee Park.
I couldn’t make it to last year’s festival, but I heard only good things about it. They have several volunteer positions available, as well, so if you’re a little unsure about the price, perhaps consider working a few hours in order to enjoy the rest of the festival for free.
