Screenwriter's Address

“The question is, did I become a writer because I worry?” – Andrew Bovell

On Wednesday evening, Foxtel and the AWF presented their fifth annual Screenwriter’s Address, this year featuring Lantana-writer Andrew Bovell. Andrew spoke to a passionate crowd at the Wheeler Centre about his troubles in finding the right balance of story and political commentary, and told tales of his time working with Baz Luhrmann on early drafts of Strictly Ballroom. Personally, I believe that story should come first, no matter what your political agenda may be, but Andrew still made some very interesting points, particularly in his discussion of plays and their film adaptations.

I’d just like to apologise for the lack of updates in the past week. I moved house last weekend, and my new place does not yet have internet – I know, how can I possibly live like this?! Combine that with end of semester stress, and I’m sure you can understand that things are a little frantic. I’m actually writing this post with the WordPress app on my phone while on the bus home from Uni. I hope that it works!
